Social Media Post #168: Kwena Basin- Final Project Visit 2026

From Training to Classroom Practice: A Major Milestone in the Kwena Basin

Our third and final visit of 2026 to the Kwena Basin project marked a pivotal transition in our journey with local educators.

Throughout this year, dedicated teachers across two primary schools and five Early Childhood Development (ECD) centres have been deepening their understanding of the Basic Concepts Programme (BCP). On this visit, we completed our Number and Letter training modules and reached a key milestone: teachers completed the theoretical component of their training, with 36 hours of intensive coursework across six sessions.

While celebrating this achievement is important, the true focus lies ahead. We are moving from conceptual understanding to the much more demanding phase of embedding BCP directly into everyday classroom practice. During our school visits, seeing teachers actively apply these strategies with young learners showed encouraging early progress—and reminded us that sustainable educational change requires time, mentorship, and ongoing partnership.

Thank you to all the educators and facilitators dedicated to building strong foundational learning for every child, and to DGMT for supporting this important work in the Kwena Basin.
