To become certified mediators of the BCP teachers are required to implement the programme under supervision for one year.  This includes on-site mentoring in their classrooms.

Teachers from the Metro apply to attend the BCP training and to be part of the project at their school. They are required to sign a formal commitment to implement the programme.

School and classroom visits for the purposes of mentoring and monitoring are an essential feature of the Basic Concepts Programme.

The project is located in the strikingly beautiful and far-flung areas of the Namaqua District, Northern Cape. Spectacular beauty abounds, particularly during the flower season. The region is named

I was very happy about my development on this course… often as teachers we do not pay attention to detail, but because of Basic Concepts I was aware of the lack of language use in my class. I am now using a different approach with my learners and being aware of the small details that make a big change in the way I teach and learners learn. Thank you for this eye opening course.

Kwena Basin Education Trust: Project Visit, September 2016

The course was very helpful to me as a teacher, excellent and exciting, because it opened my mind … how to integrate basic concept in all learning areas. It also showed that children should not be limited and their understanding should be developed step-by-step.

I have learned new strategies to use across the CAPS curriculum, also new exciting ways to build language. I've become more aware of the language that I use in my classroom.
