Trainer-of-Trainers (ToT)

The ToT will be initiated in 2022 with officials from three districts (John Taolo Gaetsewe, Pixley Ka Seme, and Namaqua) as well as officials from the Provincial Head Office in Kimberley.

Each official will attend 6 weeks of training over the duration of the year. See the programme below.

The training process is very thorough- the trainees are required to i) prepare to run their sessions, ii)watch a model session, iii) run their own session and, iv) thereafter reflect (as a group) on their training sessions.

The officials will each train a small group of teachers during the year. We estimate that about 60 teachers will be trained during the year.

After the teachers have been trained in 2022, they will be expected to implement the programme with support inside their classes with all their learners.

The teacher training process is based on the same model used by the BCs Lead Team in the province.

It helps learners to think and forms (the) foundation for reading, writing and mathematics.

Metro South Education District: Training (January, 2013)

Developed new method/techniques on how to use myself better in sessions and get better potential from children.’ (KIDZPOSITIVE, Occupational Therapist, 2011)

Teacher Feedback

Before the course, I never focused on the main concepts as I never really thought them essential to "real life" as a speech-language pathologist. I now have a very different perspective on why these aspects are important and how they move cognition forward.

ZOOM TRAINING 2 FEEDBACK

The workshop helped me to understand how to work with the children in the classroom. I also learnt how to ask open-ended questions that will encourage my learners to think and to ask more questions.

Pixley Kaseme: Training Sessions 1+2

Practical, useful, clear, scaffolded for use in the classroom. Very approachable lecturer and lessening of anxiety through post-workshop contact.

Open Public Training, 2015 (Cape Town)

‘All foundation phase educators, esp. Grade R, should attend this workshop. If everyone in the education system uses this BCP model, we should see remarkable improvements in the learners' LIT/NUM over a couple of years.’ (Metro North, 2009)
