Kwena Basin Education Trust: Project Visit, September 2016

Monday, September 5, 2016 - 08:00 to Friday, September 9, 2016 - 17:00
Kwena Basic Education Trust

Focus of Visit 3

This will be the third and final visit to the project for the year.

The teacher training will continue with exposure to the last two conceptual domains of the programme: Number and Letter. The training will be over two days - one day per conceptual domain.

This will be followed by mentoring and support of the teachers in their classrooms. The class visits aim to help the teachers implement the mediation of the 'new' conceptual domains.

The project leader will also oversee data collection in the Foundation Phase classes at the project schools. This will involve the testing of approximately 300 learners. In addition, we will continue to gather data from Grade 4 learners at the project schools.

The final phase of data collection will be in 2017.

This is an excellent programme that can benefit any learner or educator.

Metro Central Education District

I understand now that teaching is not just standing in front of the class, but a discussion/ dialogue with your children.

Now I can help the learners from our poorer areas to verbalize for themselves…  they are becoming more confident and starting to love their educational journey.

Metro Central (2013); Training

I understand how I can assist my learners who need intervention. The BCP will boost the self-esteem and knowledge of weak learners. It definitely helps me to guide my learners, using the correct language applicable to the situation.

‘It was one of the best training sessions that Metro North has presented….’ (Metro North, 2009)

Teacher Feedback

It is a method of teaching…to establish the basic foundations or building blocks in order for children to make sense of the environment around them.
