BCP FOCUS SCHOOLS IN SOUTH AFRICA

The principal and management team at Edendale Primary have found that language development is a key challenge for learners at their school and recognised the significant impact the Basic Concepts Programme (BCP) was having at schools in the surrounding area.

They requested training for all 8 of the Foundation Phase teachers, as well as the Learning Support Teacher of the school.

The two first training sessions (Colour and Shape) have already been completed.

Training is being facilitated by master mediator, Gill Brand.

The BCP has been formally added to the Foundation Phase timetables three times a week and the Basic Concepts Foundation provides classroom support and guidance in between trainng sessions.

Die Basiese Konsepte Program het my self vertroue weer op gebou. My taal gebruik en my manier van dinge doen het ook verander. Ek is baie bly en gelukking om deel uit te maak van die Basiese Konsepte Program.

‘BCP is foundational to a child's learning. It is the building blocks on which all other concepts are built. A concept needs to be fully understood by a child before a new concept can be taught. For me the most effective aspect was the basic teaching model.  When I implemented the model I found that my learners were more focussed when I followed the steps of the model.
